SPECIAL FEATURE - DAVID "BOOM" PINKS

David "BOOM" Pinks
Musical Genius & Inspiration
Interview By: Geneva Relf
Geneva: Greetings David thanks again for agreeing to this interview! How are you today?

David: I am great, how are you? Thanks for taking the time to sit down with me.

Geneva: I great thanks and my pleasure! Now you are a very well accomplished young man. From Singing, songwriting, producing what keeps you focused and motivated?

David: My passion and love for music always keeps me going, but aside from that wanting to inspire and to do something relevant has always been my motivation.

Geneva: Music seems to be more mixtapes and singles then album. Where do you think music is headed, and will albums make a comeback?

David: I think music is definitely a singles driven industry..That's where it's pretty much headed right now. Record companies don't want to invest as much money into producing an entire album because of lack of record sells... So to them its more lucrative to promote the singles, and as those sell they'll go back and reinvest in the artist. I do think albums will make a comeback, as long as the consumer is getting a great product. You can't deny something that's great.

Geneva: Being a producer what is the most fulfilling part about creating a song?

David:  For me its always been the creative process... Because I love to tune into my different emotions to actually capture the feeling I want the music to convey... Just as a painter gets fulfillment from seeing their final artwork in a museum... Hearing my music in its entirety in the studio, hearing the walls rumble from the bass and those punchy kicks and snares, and the artist catchy lyrics is extremely fulfilling to me also

Geneva: Music is a major part of your life. You started out in the Harlem Boys Choir, what inspired you to sing in the first place?

David: Initially my dreams to be a singer came from seeing the great performers such as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gay, Elton John, the Beatles, Madonna, Aretha Franklin and Sam Brown, and even more to bring it home my stepfather was a musician who  had an amazing collection of albums growing up around all those musical vibes just inspired me.

Geneva: Now I understand that while you were in the Harlem boys choir you were a victim of abuse. Why do you think physical abuse is such a silent terror in society?
David: Abuse comes with such a stigma and feeling of shame that has long term lasting effects. Most people feel it is easier to just hide the abuse as opposed to living their life in perceived shame.

Geneva: Why do you think it's harder for men to admit they have been abused?

David: We live in such a male dominated society that most men feel less of a man by admitting they were abused or taken advantage of. Not only that, there is also the sense of shame and embarrassment that they carry as well.

Geneva: Do you think there should be harsher laws for those who know abuse is taking place, and doing nothing to prevent it from taking place?

David: Absolutely, I do not think they should be placed in jail, but I do feel if they are a person of authority they should be removed of those positions.

Geneva:  You are known for wanting to end the cycle of abuse. What steps have to be taken to ensure that victims get the help they need?

David: I feel that a major step that I have taken is coming out and speaking on this issue, I often feel that in the black community victims of sexual abuse have no one to turn to, to talk to, or even look up to. I want to be able to provide the voice that they can look up to, to look at me and say this guy has been through the same situation, he has overcame it and so can I. With that being said, it has been a long standing passion of mine to help victims by starting a foundation to further my cause.

Geneva: You mentioned your foundation can you tell us a little more about the foundation?

David The David Pinks Foundation is designed to motivate youth victims of sexual abuse and allow them to achieve their dreams by creating a positive and safe environment where they can openly discuss what they have been through and get the guidance they need. The programs will focus on music, reading, organizing, goal setting and faith in Jesus Christ. The goal will be to create an overall healthy lifestyle that will allow these victims to become survivors.

Geneva: What should a parent, teachers, siblings or anyone for that matter look for as a sign that abuse is taking place?

David: These are the signs: if the child starts having behavioral problems, they become rebellious, isolating themselves, they communicate less, also if your kids become more sexual than what is age appropriate

Geneva:  How did you overcome, after everything you have been through what kept you going?
David: I have been fortunate enough to have a great support system around me. Also, throughout this entire process I have relied on my faith in God and in Jesus Christ to guide me through.

Geneva: Now I understand that you have been in the studio working around the clock. Can you tell us what upcoming projects we can look forward to?

David: I have numerous upcoming projects working in collaborations with Tony Sunshine, Joe Budden, Leona Lewis just to name a few.
Geneva: What is that feeling you get being in the studio or collaborating with so many great talents?
David: It was an honor to work alongside these great musical talents, because when we get together in the studio magic is always created.

Geneva: There are so many upcoming artist in the industry what advice would you give them about making positive decisions in the music game?

David: Get a great team behind you that truly believes in you, Jordan would not have gotten all those rings without a great coach and great team mates.

Geneva: Being a music artist where do you pull your inspiration from?

David:  My inspiration comes from life experience and my faith, Jesus has guided me threw every aspect of my life both good and bad and music is the outlet he gave me to express myself.
Geneva: What's the next level for David Pinks?

David: There are so many big things coming out from David Pinks: hot tracks I produced, amazing songs I wrote, corporate speaking engagements, and currently I am working on my foundation to help children who have been sexually abused.

Geneva: I know you have such a busy schedule, and thanks again for agreeing to this interview! Is there anything you would like to say before we go? Also don't forget to tell the people where to find you.

David: I want to thank my fans, family and team for their continued support and I also want to thank you Geneva for taking the time out to do this interview. You can check me out:
